Why do we scratch an itch?

Our brains should know better, but we can’t resist the urge to scratch an itch. Scientists are still scratching their heads trying to figure out exactly why.

Scratching might temporarily ease itching symptoms, but it can also cause further irritation. Plus, no amount of scratching will stop the itch from returning, and the itch-scratch cycle won’t end until a solution, like Benadryl, provides relief that lasts.

Allergy Causes

Allergens cause allergies, and unfortunately, allergens are everywhere. Common allergens include pollen, dust mites, mold spores and pet dander. While there’s no way to completely eliminate allergens, knowing which ones affect you will help you treat them. Common allergies tend to fall into two categories: seasonal and year-round. Most allergies are caused by triggers in the air we breathe, common allergy symptoms include: runny nose; sneezing; itchy throat; itchy nose; and itchy, watery eyes. If you’re experiencing one or more symptoms, there’s a strong chance allergies are the culprit. For relief when you need it most, use the Benadryl product that works best for you.

Why do I get allergies at night?

For those with allergies at night, a good night’s sleep can be but a dream. Exposure to allergens in the bedroom can lead to some of the worst allergy symptoms of the day. But a few preventive measures can help keep those allergy symptoms in check. One of the biggest causes of allergies at night is dust mites - dust mites won’t bite you or harm you. But if they do trigger your allergies, you can take action to reduce your exposure to them like using dust mite proof pillows and mattress covers. You should also declare the bedroom a pet-free zone - especially at night. Even if you’re not allergic to dogs or cats, their fur can often carry pollen and mold spores which will wind up in the bedroom or worse - on the bed. Following these tips can help you reduce the severity of symptoms so you can get a good night’s sleep.
