View Full DetailsFor people who require mobility aids, wheelchairs provide a means of transportation and independence. A wheelchair is a mobility aid that is used to replace or supplement walking. It is a chair with wheels that allows people to move around freely without having to stand up or walk. Wheelchairs come in different shapes, sizes, and designs, and they are used by people with various disabilities such as spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and amputations, among others. In this article, we will be discussing wheelchairs and wheelchair parts, the different types of wheelchairs, and what to consider when purchasing one.
There are various types of wheelchairs available in the market, and they come in different shapes, sizes, and designs. The type of wheelchair that an individual requires depends on their specific needs and requirements. Some of the most common types of wheelchairs include:
Manual Wheelchairs: These are the most common types of wheelchairs, and they are propelled by the user or a caregiver. Manual wheelchairs come in different designs, including standard, lightweight, and ultra-lightweight, and they can be customized to fit an individual's specific needs.
Electric Wheelchairs: These wheelchairs are powered by a battery, and they are designed for individuals who have limited upper body strength or endurance. Electric wheelchairs come in different designs, including rear-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, and mid-wheel drive, and they offer different features and functionalities.
Reclining Wheelchairs: These are designed for individuals who spend extended periods of time in their wheelchairs. They allow the user to recline the backrest and elevate their legs, providing support and comfort. Reclining wheelchairs come in different designs, including manual and electric, and they can be customized to fit an individual's specific needs.
Bariatric wheelchairs: TheseΒ are designed for individuals who are overweight or obese. They have a higher weight capacity than standard wheelchairs, and they offer more support and stability. Bariatric wheelchairs come in different designs, including manual and electric, and they can be customized to fit an individual's specific needs.
Wheelchairs with Elevating Legrests:Β Wheelchairs with elevating legrests are designed to provide support and comfort for individuals who require their legs to be elevated. They are commonly used by individuals who have poor circulation or have had surgery on their legs. Wheelchairs with elevating legrests come in different designs, including manual and electric, and they can be customized to fit an individual's specific needs.
When purchasing a reclining wheelchair, bariatric wheelchair, or wheelchair with elevating legrests, there are various factors that an individual needs to consider, including:
Maintenance: The maintenance of the wheelchair is important to ensure its longevity and proper functioning. The user should be able to perform basic maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and replacing parts.
Wheelchairs consist of different parts, and each part plays a significant role in providing mobility and comfort to the user. Understanding the different parts of a wheelchair is crucial when purchasing one or replacing a part. Some of the most common wheelchair parts include:
This bed arrived in a timely fashion. However, as my brother passed away, we did not even open it. The staff was extremely helpful with the return and most integrable. I have nothing but good words to say.
What a wonderful help for my Mother, who has had transferring issues since a health setback! I just wish the designer who invented it could come up with a solution for easy transfers to the car!
Bought this bed for long-term use and it has not disappointed. It's durable and the comfort level is exceptional.
The overall design is young and fresh. I like the larger wheels because it makes the bike more stable and easier to maneuver. It folds up perfectly. It fits in every backseat and I can easily set it aside in a restaurant or a theater without getting in anyoneβs way.
Once we received some communication about the bed from questions we had, the bed is wonderful
I love the control for the bed! So easy to use! I have an issue with the mattress! I conuously slide down, so my toes smash against the footboard! My legs don't move so I have to get someone to pull me up several times in a day! This new mattress is memory foam, I might have to switch back to an inner-spring mattress. Any thoughts on why I'm sliding down the mattress? JODI M
the support bracket does not open wide enough for me to step into the walker for proper gait & upper body support. It looks like there is a place for a mid way support bracket which would be great. It tends to lean when I turn because all the torque is on the front wheel.
This bed is a back saver. Getting my mother in and out of bed is so much easier
After a lengthy hospital stay, this wound up being the perfect bed at home. We would buy it again in a second. Itβs the true Rolls Royce of beds of this type. Amazing!
It has been an excellent choice. The bed is well-constructed, and the rotating feature makes it easy to reposition my mother. The controls are simple to use, and the bed is very comfortable.
